UTOPIANISM – HIPPIE COUNTER-CULTURE: REACTION

Agree? Disagree?
___ 1)The Hippies were NOBLE “IDEALISTS” who recognized how the world ____
“SHOULD” be. The recognized the FLAWS and “EVILS” of the world they “INHERITED” from their parents and the “past”. They BRAVEly sought to “PROTEST” the PAST of history and “culture” (our “way of life”) and CHANGE the world for the better.
They self-LESSly sought “SOCIAL JUSTICE”.
They COURAGE-OUSLY sought to “experience” a better life by seeking “utopia”.
Briefly explain:

___ 2)The Hippies were IDEALISTIC FOOLS, guilty of “wishful thinking” that. ____
IMAGINED and IGNORED life’s “REALITIES”. Their “PROTEST” was a CHILDISH “TEMPER-TANTRUM” that REJECTED the WISDOM and EXPERIENCE of their parents, who “KNEW BETTER”.
OBLIVIOUS to UN-INTENDED CONSEQUENCES, the end result of their “protest” became social Injustice and self-INDULGENCE. “Peace and Love” and “sex, drugs and rock n roll” tragic-ally morphed into drug addiction, sexually transmitted diseases, divorce and overall social breakdown and “dysfunction”.
The truth and “trick” about the world is that the more things CHANGE, the more they stay the SAME. The word “utopia” in Latin literally means “nowhere”. There is a fine line between “courage” and “stupid-ity. Briefly explain:

___3)SLY STONE’s song “HIGHER” is “hopeful”, correctly optimistic about ___
making life better, UTOPIAN POSSIBILITIES, thinking “OUTSIDE the BOX” to “ELEVATE” our expectations of life. It could be biological, through “pleasure” of the body. It could be psychological,“expanding” the “mind” and “consciousness” to make life a better “experience”. It could be sociological, showing how people can make this world a more harmonious place. Or it could be cosmological, bringing us in “harmony” the “universe”. Briefly explain:

___4)Sly Stone’s song “Higher” exemplifies “IMAGINED”, ILLUSORY and
NARCISSISTIC (self-love) wishful thinking and NIHILISM (self-destructive and indulgent and mind-less nothing-ness). Drug use only brings temporary, illusory “ESCAPE”. Drug use does not “expand” one’s “mind” and “consciousness”. It does the exact OPPOSITE, making one a PRISONER to the senses and SELF. The creation of pseudo-heaven results in HELL, exposure to the “DEMONS” of self and life. Sly Stone’s personal life reflected that brutal “reality”. Briefly explain:

___5)The WOODSTOCK Music Festival in 1969 was “REVOLUTIONARY”, ____
an extraordinary, exceptional “EXPERIMENT” showing that people CAN live the “utopian” life of peace, love and harmony. Woodstock was an EXAMPLE of UTOPIAN “POTENTIAL” and “POSSIBILITY”, what “our” world CAN and SHOULD be. It showed how “heaven on earth” can be achieved if people set their mind to it.
Briefly explain:

___6)The WOODSTOCK Music Festival, upon closer inspection, was a “DISASTER” ___
in most respects. People are “BLINDED” by idealism’s superficial benefits, ignoring the tragic, UGLY “realities INHERENT to “life”. The people who claimed “heaven on earth” left behind a giant “pit” of GARBAGE, MUD and “EXCREMENT”. Woodstock showed how utopian “SOLUTIONS” NEVER MEET PROMISED EXPECTATIONS.
Life’s tragic “PROBLEMS” have COST (a PRICE) that outweigh any “PROGRESS”.
There is NOTHING “NEW” nor real “CHANGE” – it is the SAME “OLD” RE-ARRANGED. Woodstock revealed our human limitations, ignoring what CANNOT be and revealing a “NOWHERE” that NEVER WILL be.
Briefly explain:
